HANOI: Vietnam recorded 17 cases of drones or other aircraft entering restricted airspace at airports in the first half of 2026, following 34 cases in 2025, the Vietnam News Agency reported Friday (Aug 14).
The Immigration Department under the Ministry of Public Security warned that each incursion can force air traffic controllers to halt takeoffs, suspend landings or divert flights to prevent potential collisions.
Authorities are warning the public against flying drones near airports, stating that violations can result in fines of up to 50 million Vietnamese dong (about US$1,920), confiscation of drones, suspension of flight privileges, or, in serious cases, criminal prosecution and imprisonment of up to 15 years.
