BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: The Brunei Darussalam Photography Association, through its Social Division and in collaboration with the Village Consultative Council of Kampong Batu Marang, organised an outdoor photography session exploring Kampong Batu Marang, Mukim Mentiri recently.

The session provided photographers with opportunities to capture the daily activities and traditional way of life of villagers through the artistic lens of photography, while also aiming to document aspects of village life more artistically, particularly activities reflecting the traditional lifestyle of the people of Brunei.

The images captured during the outing are also expected to serve as material for members to use in future publications, books, archives and historical records, preserving a visual record of everyday life.

Led by President of the Brunei Darussalam Photography Association Sulaiman Md Salleh, the photography session was joined by seven members.

Among the activities arranged for the photographers to document were the repair of traditional bubu fish traps and fishing equipment, fishing using rambat nets, angling, and other daily village activities.

The photographers also captured children flying kites and engaging in traditional indoor games, providing a glimpse into the everyday lives and recreational activities of the village community. Activities such as these aimed to promote Kampong Batu Marang as a destination to visit during Visit Brunei Year 2027.

With its traditional activities and community-based attractions, the village has the potential to offer visitors an opportunity to experience aspects of Brunei’s heritage and way of life. Apart from its daily village activities, Kampong Batu Marang also frequently hosts traditional boat races and fishing boat activities, adding to its potential as a tourism and cultural attraction.

As a continuation of the activity, a sharing session will be held to review and assess the photographs produced during the outing.

The works and photos taken will be evaluated, and participants will receive comments and feedback from judges comprising senior members and advisers of the association.

Through such activities, the association continues to encourage its members to strengthen their photography skills while documenting Brunei’s communities, traditions and everyday way of life for future generations.

The activities also sought to provide opportunities for photographers to develop their skills and knowledge through face-to-face sharing and hands-on experience, with guidance from more experienced members. – Borneo Bulletin/ANN
