Cops nab two after alleged hotel robbery in Sunway Mentari

PETALING JAYA: A spontaneous effort between police and members of the public saw to the swift arrest of two men who allegedly robbed a hotel concierge in Sunway Mentari here.

OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Zani Che Din said the 34-year-old Bangladeshi concierge was manning the counter at the hotel along PJS 8/2 when he was ambushed by two men armed with knives and screwdrivers at around 6am Saturday.

"The suspects threatened to kill the concierge if he did not hand over money from the counter and his personal belongings.

"They emptied the cash drawer and made away with the money and the victim's mobile phone. They beat up the concierge and wrecked hotel property," he said.

ACP Zani said the victim ran out of hotel to get help and contacted the police.

Two policemen on patrol were redirected to the scene.

"The officers saw two men running away through the backdoor of the hotel while discarding their weapons

"They managed to apprehend the two suspects with help from the public and recovered the RM1400 stolen from the hotel," he added.

The two men in their 30s, one of whom has a previous record for robbery, will be investigated for armed gang robbery under section 395/397 of the Penal Code.
