Brunei joins Jakarta meeting to tackle transnational crime

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: The Legislative Council (LegCo), represented by Speaker of the LegCo Datuk Seri Setia Abdul Rahman Datuk Setia Mohamed Taib, attended the First Meeting of the Study Committee on the Transformation of AIPA Advisory Council on Dangerous Drugs (AIPACODD) for Enhanced Cooperation on Transnational Crimes held on January 28 and 29 in Jakarta, Indonesia.

In line with its objectives, the meeting discussed proposals to transform AIPACODD into a new mechanism to address a broader range of transnational crime issues, with a focus on strategic needs and value, as well as the potential alignment of the proposed mechanism with Asean’s political and security agenda.

Several presentations were delivered by representatives of Asean Member States, along with invited organisations. These included the Asean Senior Officials on Drug Matters, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, and the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism.

The meeting also reinforces AIPA’s role and functions in addressing transnational crime-related issues, with the outcomes of these discussions being planned to be presented at the upcoming 47th AIPA General Assembly. - Borneo Bulletin/ANN
