Oumi is a new artificial intelligence platform launched by former engineers from Google, Apple and Meta. What sets it apart from other AI offerings is its complete, unrestricted access to its models and the data used.

Oumi (which stands for Open Universal Machine Intelligence) aims to open up AI development "for everyone" by offering complete, transparent access to its models and the data used. The platform aims to simplify the entire process of creating, evaluating and using its models.

To achieve this, it is already collaborating with 13 leading universities, most of them in the US (MIT, Georgia Tech, Caltech, Princeton, etc), as well as two in the UK (Cambridge, Oxford) and one in Canada (Waterloo).

According to its cofounders, Oumi's teams can already train and fine-tune models from 10 million to 405 billion parameters. They also believe that an open source platform will accelerate discoveries in all areas of AI.

By adopting both a collaborative and decentralized approach, Oumi is also looking to reduce the costs associated with AI development, by drawing on infrastructures already in place at both university and research institute level.

By providing full access to models and data, Oumi aims to enable researchers and developers from all over the world to work together in complete transparency. Rather than reserving innovation for the corporate giants associated with new technologies, Oumi aims to make AI development accessible to all, while encouraging innovation.

Ultimately, Oumi's aim is to create a more open, inclusive and responsible alternative to proprietary AI platforms as we know them today. – AFP Relaxnews
