WhatsApp is currently rolling out a new feature that allows users to silence unknown calls in the beta version of the app on Android.

Beta testers on version 2.23.10.7 and above will be eligible for the feature’s rollout.

When activated, incoming calls from phone numbers that are not part of a user’s contact list will be silenced, preventing it from making the device ring or vibrate.

However, a record of the call and phone number will still be listed in the calls tab.

To enable the feature, simply navigate to the settings menu and tap on “Privacy”, then scroll all the way down and press the “Calls” button, after which users will be able to turn the feature on.

Many WhatsApp users have taken to Twitter to report that they have been receiving suspicious calls from unknown international numbers on the messaging app, making this feature a welcome addition.

Currently, there is no timeline as to when the feature will be added to the live version of the app.

Android users who are not in the beta have the option of signing up for it here to gain early access to new features.

Alongside the ability to silence calls from unknown numbers, WhatsApp has also rolled out other beta features on Android recently, including the ability to report messages to group admins and a bottom navigation bar to select users.
