Google has announced that its Ask Maps feature in Google Maps will be making its debut in Malaysia alongside 160 other countries. Previously, it had only been available in the US and India.
The feature adds agentic capabilities to Google Maps via Gemini, which the search giant says will allow it to handle complex, multi-step tasks.
This includes tasks such as recommending restaurants based on a user's dietary requirements or preferences, as well as finding quieter eateries for those looking to have conversations.
Ask Maps will further make information such as live delay alerts for public transport, including ferries, easier for users to access via a live transit board that updates automatically.
Requesting such information will provide users with all their transportation options. Drivers, on the other hand, will be given real-time notices of disruptions along a given route for incidents such as crashes or construction.
It can also help with planning trips by providing information about accommodations, local events, routes, and other user-set criteria.
Currently, the real-time information, more personalised responses, and memory of previous conversations with Ask Maps are rolling out in Malaysia. However, features such as ordering food, checking hotel rates and finding local events directly through Google Maps are limited to the US right now.
