Streaming platform Zee5, which has been available in Malaysia since last October, is planning to dub its Bollywood and Kollywood content into Malay starting in April.
Currently, it has over 100,000 hours of on-demand content in 12 languages, including English, Tamil, Hindi and Malayalam. It also offers more than 60 live streaming channels.
Chief business officer Archana Anand claims that Zee5 adds up to 5,000 hours of new content on a weekly basis.
She added that Malaysians will get to enjoy Tamil TV shows like Sembaruthi and Poove Pochodava, Zee5 Tamil original America Mapillai, and the latest Bollywood TV shows like Final Call starring Arjun Rampal and Raagbaaz with Saqib Saleem.
Subscription fee costs RM4.90 for a week, RM20.90 for a month and RM199.90 a year. Alternatively, users can subscribe to a Tamil-only plan for RM9.90 a month. Currently, Zee5 only offers direct carrier billing for Celcom customers.
All the plans allow users to stream Zee5 on five devices at a time and it also supports Chromecast.
“Zee5 is a way for us to bring all our content from different companies onto a single, unified platform,” Archana said during the launch in Kuala Lumpur.
Zee5 was first launched in India in February last year and the service is available in Malaysia through a partnership with Apigate.
Apigate, which is a subsidiary of Axiata Digital, offers backend systems for services such as direct carrier billing, e-wallet and authentication.
Its chief executive officer Zoran Vasiljev said the company will be introducing Oona TV, an ad-supported free-to-watch streaming service from Indonesia, later this year.
Oona TV offers both live streams of local Indonesian and international TV channels, and video-on-demand (VOD) content.
Viewers will also be rewarded with tCoins for watching advertisements or sharing content on social media. The coins can be exchanged for rewards from partner merchants.
Zee5 shows can be streamed from its website or app which is available from Google Play and Apple App Store.
Previously, content from Zee5 parent company, Zee Entertainment, was offered on Astro and HyppTV.
