Watch out for these devices

Wearable devices take on a more stylish twist with Samsung’s latest smart watch offerings: The Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo.

The Samsung Gear 2 is 68g with dimensions of 36.9 x 58.4x 10.0mm, whereas the Gear Neo is lighter, weighing in at 55g, and has a size of 37.9 x 58.8 x 10.0mm.

Both watches offer users the flexibility of swapping strap colours in order to suit their current mood or to match the day’s outfit. Colour options available for the Gear 2 are Charcoal Black, Gold Brown and Wild Orange while Charcoal Black, Mocha Grey and Wild Orange are provided for Gear 2 Neo.

In addition, the home screen background, clock face and font are also customisable to suit a user’s personal tastes.

Unlike their predecessor, Samsung’s new generation of smart watches now runs on the Tizen platform. Both have a 320 x 320 1.63in Super Amoled display and run on a 1.0GHz dual core processors. They are powered by Li-ion 300mAh batteries which is expected to be able to last for two to three days with normal use. An embedded IrLED sensor present in these watches will enable users to control other electronic products around the home such as the TV using the WatchOn Remote app.

Those purchasing the Gear 2 can also enjoy its 2.0-megapixel autofocus camera which is located on the watch’s main body.

Pricing has yet to be announced. However, it is expected that both devices will be made available globally from April onwards.
