Block by block, success built

Students at Sunway College benefit from VU’s innovative Block Model and global opportunities.

AS one of the world’s top universities, Victoria University (VU), in partnership with Sunway College, is transforming how students experience higher education through its award-winning VU Block Model.

By focusing on one subject at a time over four-week blocks, students gain a deeper understanding of their coursework, improve results and enjoy a more balanced student life — with less stress and better focus.

This pioneering method, paired with VU’s strong global reputation and Sunway College’s proven excellence, offers students in Malaysia a smarter pathway to globally recognised qualifications with diverse majors available.

Block learning

The VU Block Model is unlike the traditional system where students manage four or more subjects simultaneously. Instead, it breaks each semester into four distinct blocks, allowing students to concentrate fully on just one subject at a time.

Classes are interactive, workshop-style sessions capped at 40 students, typically running three hours a day, three times a week. This structure gives students more time to digest material, complete assessments and engage meaningfully with peers and lecturers.

As Valerie Tan Jia Xin, a Bachelor of Business student, explained: “The VU Block Model is great for students looking to complete assessments independently with minimal supervision while also growing in a comfortable and engaging learning environment.”

Another student, Sarrvina Soorace, added: “Experiencing the VU Block Model has been eye-opening. Despite having no prior business knowledge, it enabled me to grasp new concepts with ease while also learning transferable (soft) skills.”

Global reputation

Victoria University is recognised among the top 2% of universities worldwide in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2025. It is also ranked No.1 in Australia for technical and professional skills according to the 2022 QILT Employer Satisfaction Survey, as well as No.1 in the state of Victoria for educational experience.

Sunway College has been the sole partner of VU in Malaysia for over 30 years, offering students the opportunity to obtain an Australian degree at a lower cost.

Students can complete the entire programme in Malaysia or transfer to VU Melbourne — or even other leading universities in Australia and New Zealand — for international exposure.

These options allow students to tailor their degree to their strengths and career ambitions, opening doors to more specialised opportunities.

Industry connections

One of VU’s hallmarks is its strong commitment to work-integrated learning. With over 4,000 industry partners, VU ensures students apply what they learn in real-life business environments.

Through Business Challenge Units, students work on projects and pitch their solutions to industry experts, gaining valuable exposure and feedback.

Internship opportunities also provide hands-on experience, equipping students with the practical skills employers demand.

Adding to this strength, VU’s degrees are recognised by global professional bodies in accounting and marketing, ensuring graduates are industry-ready and competitive in the job market.

Smarter choice

The VU Block Model is more than just an innovative teaching method — it’s a game-changer that helps students achieve their personal best. By studying one subject at a time in small, interactive classes, students gain confidence, sharpen their soft skills and build industry-ready knowledge.

With globally recognised degrees, cost savings, transfer opportunities and strong industry connections, VU in partnership with Sunway College offers one of the most flexible and future-focused study pathways in Malaysia.

With the September intake now in progress, students have the perfect chance to start their journey toward a rewarding and globally recognised degree.
