Gift of Five Blessings
Celebrating the Chinese New Year apart under the MCO doesn’t mean we cannot give gifts to kin and friends.
A most auspicious gift for the season would be the Five Blessings collection by Royal Selangor featuring five graceful stylised bat motifs.
As the word “bat” in Chinese is a homophone for “blessings”, it is considered an auspicious animal.
The motif refers to “wu fu” or “five blessings”, and the auspicious aspect is further enhanced by these complementary elements – clouds representing good fortune, lingzhi motif for immortality and fulfilment of wishes, peony blossom signifying wealth and honour, and the lotus petal border that symbolises harmony.
The fu character, which means “joy” in Chinese, is stylised in a traditional roundel and marks every item.
The Five Blessings tea set include a tray inlaid with a pewter disc featuring the wufu and lingzhi surrounding a faceted fu character.
Stylised lotus petals surround the body of the teapot, with the wufu fluttering on its shoulder. It is inlaid with pewter, and the nyatoh wooden lid of the teapot minimises heat transfer. The set comes with white porcelain teacups.

Strength to face the future

The ox moves purposefully in an upward direction, within a circular pewter frame of a repeating “wan” or “ten thousand” years longevity pattern – signifying new opportunities for flourishing relationships, careers and prosperity in the year ahead.
