Diver Syafiq has lofty aim to meet after being thrust into leading role


Opportunity knocks: Mohd Syafiq Puteh gets a shot at winning his first-ever individual gold medal.

PETALING JAYA: Mohd Syafiq Puteh has the tough task of trying to retain Malaysia’s gold in the men’s 3m springboard individual event, won by Ooi Tze Liang in 2019 in the Philippines, at the Hanoi SEA Games next week.

The 22-year-old will be the country’s leading diver in the event, giving him a shot at winning his first-ever individual gold medal. Youngster Gabriel Gilbert Daim is the second Malaysian entry for the event.
