PETALING JAYA: National bowler Nur Hazirah Ramli has big goals this year but now she is looking forward to a good time during Hari Raya as she returns to Sarawak to celebrate with her family.

The 22-year-old said it has been a while since she last returned to Kuching to celebrate the festivities with her family.

“I really do miss my family, it’s been a while since I’ve seen them. Celebrating Hari Raya in Sarawak is always fun, it goes on for almost a week.

“I can’t wait to see my grandmother and the rest of my family there. The usual tradition for my family is to gather on the first day.

“I miss my aunts’ cooking, especially mee laksa and lemang,” said Hazirah.

Malaysia Games (Sukma) four-gold medallist Hazirah said after the holidays back home, her main aim this year will be to get into the running to compete at the Thailand SEA Games in December.

She also hopes to compete against the senior bowlers for a spot in the World Championships.

“My target is to be in the top six in the country to compete at the SEA Games.

“I’ve been training with the seniors since last year and I’ve gotten used to it. It’s hard work but I’m trying to keep up with them,” she said.

Now in the Podium Programme, Hazirah said her prospects of competing in the Professional Women’s Bowling Association (PWBA) still remains to be seen as it depends on acquiring sponsorship.

“At the moment I’m with coach Wendy Chai but I’m not sure if I’ll be competing in the PWBA. We are still waiting for sponsors to confirm, only then will I know the plans.

“If I do get to compete, I just want to play well because it will be my first time.

“I don’t want to set high expectations because the seniors there are strong. It’s been tough for them, so I hope I can play well,” she said.
