PETALING JAYA: National bowlers Adelia Nur Izwan Syazalee, Adania Mohd Redzwan, Mohd Aiman Syahin Sulaiman and Ethan Damien Goh capped a memorable day for Malaysia by winning the mixed team gold at the World Youth Championships in Kuching on Monday (July 6).

The quartet defeated Finland's Julia Vesanen, Tiiamari Laukkanen, Juho Vuoppola, and Roni Leskinen 255-180, 222-209 in the final at Megalanes Sarawak to deliver the hosts their second gold medal on the final day of the tournament.

Malaysia were in complete control from the start, racing to a dominant victory in the opening game with eight strikes and three spares.

The Finns mounted a stronger challenge in the second game, but the Malaysians held their nerve in the closing frames to seal the title 222-209 and complete a 2-0 victory.

It was a golden double for Adelia, 19, and Adania, 20, who had earlier captured the girls' doubles title after beating Erin Klemencic and Elizabeth Teuber of the United States 244-181, 207-201 in the final.

The mixed team triumph also provided the perfect response after Malaysia's disappointment in the girls' team event, where the defending champions had to settle for bronze.

With the second gold secured on home soil, the national bowlers ensured the local fans had plenty to celebrate.
