PETALING JAYA: National bowlers Adelia Nur Izwan Syazalee and Adania Mohd Redzwan were in striking form to deliver Malaysia their first gold medal at the World Youth Championships.

The 19-year-old Adelia and Adania, 20, stood solid to beat Erin Klemencic-Elizabeth Teuber of the United States 244-181, 207-201 in the girls' doubles final at the Megalanes Sarawak in Kuching on July 6 (Monday).

Determined to give the home fans something to cheer about, the Malaysians produced a commanding display in the opening game before holding their nerve in a closely contested second to seal the title with a 2-0 victory.

The triumph made amends for their disappointment in the girls' team event, where Malaysia failed to defend the title and had to settle for bronze.

The pair now have the chance to add another gold medal when they return to action in the mixed team final later today alongside Mohd Aiman Syahin Sulaiman and Ethan Damien Goh against Finland.
