PETALING JAYA: Playing in the “Cat City” with her close friend has proved to be a good luck charm for national bowler Adania Mohd Redzwan (pic) as she finds herself in two finals at the World Youth Championships in Megalanes Sarawak.
“I love cats but unfortunately don’t own any,” said Adania, who will be bowling alongside her good buddy Adelia Nur Izwan Syazalee in the doubles. “Whenever I visit friends (who have cats), I’ll be engrossed.”
The Asian No. 7 bowler Adania has had a tournament to remember here in Kuching, as she leads the nation’s medal tally with a bronze in the team event and will be going for the titles in both the doubles and mixed team events today.
In the doubles, Adania and Adelia will face American pair Erin Klemencic-Elizabeth Teuber and in the mixed team with Mohd Aiman Syahin Sulaiman and Ethan Damien Goh, they will be competing against Finland
By her side at both finals will be her close friend and fellow cat person Adelia.
“Off the lanes, we usually hang out, have barbecues and go for karaoke together and that’s definitely helped strengthen our bond,” said Adania.
“During games, we consistently remind each other to move past a bad frame and focus on the bigger picture. Having her next to me definitely boosts my confidence,” she added.
While the feline and friendship connection might be playing the part, Adania does not discredit the role that the vocal local supporters played in boosting them during games.
“The crowd have truly made us feel at home. We’re doing everything we can to give them a tournament to remember,” added the 20-year-old.
