GLASGOW: National lawn bowls legend Siti Zalina Ahmad has been honoured by the Glasgow Commonwealth Games, with one of the four competition rinks at the Scottish Event Campus (SEC) Centre named after her.
The recognition marks the first time in Commonwealth Games history that all four competition rinks have been named in honour of legends of the sport.
Zalina joins England’s David Bryant and Ellen Falkner, as well as Wales’ Robert Weale, in receiving the distinction.
The initiative is a collaboration between Glasgow 2026 and World Bowls, with each competition rink bearing the name of a member of the World Bowls Hall of Fame throughout the Games.
"It is a tremendous honour for her, having won three Commonwealth Games gold medals," said national lawn bowls head coach Fairul Izwan Abd Muin said.
A pioneer of Malaysian lawn bowls on the international stage, Zalina is one of only two women to have won two Commonwealth Games singles gold medals, in addition to a pairs gold and a fours bronze.
The 47-year-old claimed her first singles gold at the 2002 Manchester Commonwealth Games before successfully defending it at Melbourne in 2006.
She later added a pairs gold medal at the Gold Coast edition in 2018.
