PETALING JAYA: Tee Kai Wun-Yap Roy King added another encouraging result to their partnership after reaching the China Masters semi-finals.
The men’s doubles duo, who only began playing together at the China Open in Changzhou last month, overcame Japan’s world No. 28 Takumi Nomura-Yuichi Shimogami 21-13, 19-21, 21-12 in the quarter-finals at the Shenzhen Arena on Friday (Sept 4).
Roy King was happy with the way they bounced back after losing the second game, especially after briefly losing focus and allowing the Japanese pair back into the match.
“I think it’s another big step for this pair and for our partnership. I’m very happy with our performance today.
“We managed to come back in the rubber game and regain our confidence.
“I think the way we fought back was very important. We lost the second game and lost focus a little, but we managed to get it back. I think that was very good,” said Roy King in a post-match interview with BWF.
Kai Wun, meanwhile, feels their combination is getting better with every tournament despite both players having gone through several partner changes this year.
“I think our partners have changed this year. Even though there have been changes, when we are on court, we still have to fight.
“We have to figure out how to cover our partner and give our best. I think I know more or less how to handle the situation now. It’s good to learn.
“Yes, I think we’re getting better and better. Roy King also knows how to do his part.
“I think we have performed very well this week, so hopefully we can continue until the end,” added Kai Wun.
