Zii Jia reaches Canadian Open quarter-finals

PETALING JAYA: Independent men's singles shuttler Lee Zii Jia will have to overcome Taiwan's Wang Po-wei if he hopes to reach his first semi-final of the year when they meet in the quarter-finals of the Canadian Open on Friday (July 3).

Zii Jia booked his place in the last eight after beating fellow Taiwanese Liao Jhuo-fu 21-11, 21-13 in just 29 minutes at the Markham Pan Am Centre on Thursday (July 2).

Sixth seed Po-wei also advanced comfortably after brushing aside Denmark's Ditlev Holm 21-5, 21-13.

Friday's match will be the first meeting between Zii Jia and Po-wei, with both players chasing their first semi-final appearance of the year.

Zii Jia has not reached a semi-final since the Paris 2024 Olympics, where he went on to claim the bronze medal.
