Surgery goes well for Ee Wei, focus now on rehabilitation

PETALING JAYA: World mixed doubles champion Toh Ee Wei (pic) is ready to begin the next phase of her recovery after successfully undergoing surgery on her left knee in Melbourne, Australia, on Tuesday.

The Melaka-born shuttler sustained an anterior cruciate ligament injury during the Singapore Open last month and said she is now fully focused on rehabilitation, while expressing her gratitude for the support she has received throughout her ordeal.

“I am relieved that the surgery went well and would like to thank everyone for the overwhelming support and well wishes. It means a lot to me.

“My focus now is on my rehabilitation, and I will give my full commitment to the recovery process. I look forward to returning to the court stronger,” said Ee Wei.

Throughout her recovery, BAM will continue to provide her with the necessary medical treatment and rehabilitation support.

For the time being, Chen Tang Jie will team up with Clarissa San, with the pair set to make their debut at the Japan Open from July 14-19.

At this stage, Ee Wei and Tang Jie’s chances of defending their world title appear slim, with the World Championships in New Delhi, India, less than two months away from Aug 17-23.

Ee Wei-Tang Jie made history for Malaysia in the last edition in Paris when they became the country’s first mixed doubles world champions after beating China’s Jiang Zhenbang-Wei Yaxin in the final.
