PETALING JAYA: Professional men’s singles shuttler Lee Zii Jia sprang a surprise when he showed up at the Academy Badminton Malaysia in Bukit Kiara on Friday (Feb 20).
Zii Jia’s visit was for a closed door meeting with Badminton Association of Malaysia performance committee chairman Datuk Seri Lee Chong Wei to discuss an invitation from the national body for him to train with and strengthen the Thomas Cup squad for the Finals in Horsens, Denmark in April.
He was accompanied by his coach Liew Daren and close friend Goh Jin Wei, who has also been invited to assist the women’s team ahead of the Uber Cup Finals.

After about an hour, the trio left the Academy Badminton Malaysia and decline to give any statements regarding the meeting.
“I have no comment. I came to discuss for the Thomas Cup. I will issue a further statement,” said Zii Jia briefly.
However, Chong Wei described the meeting as positive, adding that both Zii Jia and Jin Wei have asked for a week to give their decision.

“So far everything is fine, good. We have discussed with Zii Jia and Jin Wei, and also his coach Daren.
"They will give us their feedback, maybe within a week. It was a good discussion for Zii Jia. At least we now know his condition,” said Chong Wei.
