PETALING JAYA: National men’s doubles shuttlers Nur Mohd Azriyn Ayub-Tan Wee Kiong booked their spot in the Malaysian Open second round after they defeated compatriots Ong Yew Sin-Teo Ee Yi on Tuesday (Jan 6). 

World No. 28 Azriyn-Wee Kiong clawed their way back to win 11-21, 24-22, 21-11 against world No. 29 Yew Sin-Ee Yi at the Axiata Arena.

It was only the second time the Malaysians met each other on court, with Yew Sin-Ee Yi winning the previous encounter at the 2023 Taiwan Open. 

They will face either South Korea’s Kim Won-ho-Seo Seung-jae or China’s Chen Boyang-Liu Yi next. 

Meanwhile, world No. 33 Mohd Haikal Nazri-Choong Hon Jian’s run ended in the opening round after they lost 21-16, 16-21, 15-21 to world No. 16 English pair Ben Lane-Sean Vendy.
