Season over for Zii Jia after India withdrawal

PETALING JAYA: Professional men’s singles shuttler Lee Zii Jia has officially ended his season after withdrawing from the Syed Modi India International starting on Tuesday (Nov 25) in Lucknow.

The world No. 63 was listed under the “withdrawn” section on the Badminton World Federation’s (BWF) tournament website.

Zia Jia has been dealing with a persistent back injury since September, and his latest pullout confirms that he will not return to competition this year.

Zii Jia last featured at the China Masters in September, where he was forced to retire in the first round against Taiwan’s Lin Chun-yi after aggravating his back.

Meanwhile, the others who also pulled out of the tourney in India are another independent player, Aidil Sholeh Ali Sadikin, Denmark's Viktor Axelsen and mixed doubles pairs Hoo Pang Ron-Cheng Su Yin and Jimmy Wong-Lai Pei Jing.
