PETALING JAYA: Malaysia have secured their spot in the quarter-finals of the Asian Junior Mixed Team Championships after beating South Korea 2-0 in their second Group D match in Japan on Saturday (June 27).
They will play Indonesia to complete the group fixture before the knockout stage.
Indonesia have also made the top eight after winning against Macau and South Korea at the Yatsushiro City General Gymnasium.
The tournament is using the 55x3 relay scoring format.The national team started strong as boys’ doubles pair Ahmad Redzuan-Isyraf Hafizin beat Kim Tae-hyun-Lee Min-jae 11-10.
Women’s singles player Carine Tee then maintained Malaysia’s lead with a 22-19 win over Kwon Min-gyo, followed by women’s doubles pair Genevie Lim-Low Zi Yu’s 33-24 win against Kim Han-bi-Min-gyo.
Redzuan then partnered Zi Yu to take down Min-jae-Yeo Seo-young 44-31 in the mixed doubles match, before Kong Wei Xiang sealed the win by making it 55-32 against Jeong Da-hwan.
In the second tie, Malaysia beat South Korea 55-28 as Damien Ling-Irfan Shazmir beat Kim Tae-hyun-Lee Min-jae 11-3, Carine won 22-9 against Min-gyo; Genevie-Zi Yu overcame Han-bi-Min-gyo 33-14; Redzuan-Zi Yu defeated Min-jae-Seo-young 44-22; and Wei Xiang took down Da-hwan to wrap it up.
