PETALING JAYA: The historic triumph of Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei in becoming Malaysia’s first world mixed doubles champions in 48 years drew congratulatory messages from all top leaders. 

Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) president Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz hailed their win as a true inspiration for Malaysians.

“Our dream has finally become a reality," posted Zafrul.

"ChenToh did not just win, they carved history with sweat and tears. They proved that Malaysia never gives up. World Champions. 

"Malaysian badminton roars again on the world stage! This victory is the most beautiful gift for the people as we celebrate National Day. Thank you, Tang Jie and Ee Wei, for giving us hope and restoring belief. You are our inspiration,”

Tang Jie and Ee Wei clinched the title after stunning world No. 2 Jiang Zhenbang-Wei Yaxin of China 21-15, 21-14 in the final.

Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh also congratulated the duo, describing their success as especially meaningful as the nation celebrates its 68th Merdeka.

“Our Road To Gold shuttlers Chen Tang Jie and Toh Ee Wei are Malaysia’s new mixed doubles world champions! 

"This Merdeka Day gold medal is not only extra special, it will forever be etched in history as one of the country’s finest sporting achievements,” she said.
