PETALING JAYA: Men’s singles shuttler Justin Hoh is hoping to help Malaysia retain their bronze medal at least in the Sudirman Cup starting on Sunday (April 27) in Xiamen, China.

This will be Justin’s first appearance in the mixed team event, and the youngster is eager to repay the faith shown in him by contributing valuable points if given the chance to play.

"This is my first time playing in the Sudirman Cup, and I’m really excited,” said Justin in an interview with the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM).

"Everything has been going great since the first day of training with the team. I want to help the team win a medal, but this is a team event, so we all need to work together.”

Malaysia will be looking to repeat their performance from two years ago in Suzhou, where they bagged the bronze for a second consecutive edition.

In 2021, the young national squad ended a 12-year medal drought by finishing on the podium in Vantaa, Finland - the country’s first Sudirman Cup medal since 2009.

Malaysia will begin their Group C campaign against France on April 28, followed by Australia on April 29, before taking on group favourites Japan on May 1 in their final group match.

Only the top two teams from each group will advance to the quarter-finals.
