Top seeds Tang Jie-Ee Wei crash out of Orleans Masters

Toh Ee Wei and Chen Tang Jie

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia’s mixed doubles shuttlers Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei became the country’s second top pair to exit the Orleans Masters after a shock defeat in the second round on Thursday (March 6).

The top seeds struggled to impose themselves against Indonesia’s world No. 10 pair Rehan Kusharjanto-Gloria Widjaja and went down 8-21, 17-21 at the Palais des Sports.

Tang Jie-Ee Wei were plagued by unforced errors, while a series of contentious calls further disrupted their momentum.

Tang Jie, in particular, grew visibly frustrated as the absence of the Hawk-Eye system meant they were unable to challenge the umpire’s decisions.

After just 33 minutes on court, Tang Jie-Ee Wei bowed out. They will be out to make amends at next week's All-England in Birmingham.
