Shifeng ends Tze Yong's run in All-England quarter-finals

PETALING JAYA: Ng Tze Yong's challenge has ended in the All-England after losing in the men's singles quarter-finals.

Tze Yong, who scalped Olympic Games champion Viktor Axelsen of Denmark in the second round on Thursday, went down 11-21, 11-21 to Li Shifeng of China in Birmingham on Friday (March 17).

The 22-year-old Tze Yong can still walk tall despite the defeat. He had after all, upset the top seed and defending champion Axelsen, in only his first All-England outing.

Shifeng will face Anders Antonsen of Denmark, who stunned third seed Anthony Ginting of Indonesia 21-14, 9-21, 21-17.

The other semi-finals will be between Lee Zii Jia of Malaysia and China's Shi Yuqi.

Earlier, Zii Jia had beaten Kodai Naraoka of Japan 21-9, 10-21, 21-13 while Yuqi knocked out compatriot Weng Hongyang 21-9, 21-16 in the last eight matches.
