Justin through to third round at home meet

Good start: Justin Hoh was pleased with his first match of the tournament after receiving a bye in the opening round.

PETALING JAYA: Justin Hoh kept Malaysia’s men’s singles challenge alive at the Malaysia Super 100 after several of his compatriots were knocked out in Iskandar Puteri, Johor, on Wednesday (Oct 14).

The fifth seed booked his place in the third round after beating South Korea’s Kim Hae-deun 21-15, 21-16 at the Indoor Arena, EduCity Sports Complex.

Justin was pleased with his first match of the tournament after receiving a bye in the opening round.

“I am very happy to have won this match, and I hope to perform even better tomorrow.

“This tournament is very important to me because it is being held on home ground, and I hope I can win the title for Malaysia,” said Justin.

Several other Malaysians, however, were unable to follow him through.

Cheam June Wei went down 21-23, 11-21 to China’s Dong Tianyao, while Eogene Ewe lost 13-21, 17-21 to India’s Tushar Suveer.

Lim Ming Hong was also eliminated after losing 19-21, 18-21 to Indonesia’s Richie Duta, while Jacky Kok fell 14-21, 14-21 to China’s Wang Zijun.

Aidil Sholeh Ali Sadikin, however, kept his campaign alive after beating compatriot Razeeq Danial Roslie 21-11, 21-13.

There was little joy for the Malaysians in the women’s singles either.

Eng Ler Qi lost 7-21, 14-21 to India’s Malvika Bansod, while Goh Jin Wei was beaten 17-21, 16-21 by Indonesia’s Thalita Ramadhani Wiryawan.
