Valeree focusing on partnership with Yeen Yuan for world meet

Working hard: Valeree Siow (back) and Low Yeen Yuan hope to make a good impression in their debut world meet.

PETALING JAYA: Doubles shuttler Valeree Siow is fully focused on her partnership with Low Yeen Yuan as the pair prepare to make their World Championships bow in Tokyo from Aug 21-28.

Valeree, who had to perform double duty since early June after being partnered with Chen Tang Jie in the mixed doubles, will now be giving her full attention to the women’s doubles as Tang Jie will be playing with former partner Peck Yen Wei instead in the world meet.

Tang Jie-Yen Wei, who captured gold in the Hanoi SEA Games in May, have qualified on merit for the prestigious event.

Valeree is working hard with Yeen Yuan in training as the duo look to make a good impression in their debut World Championships.

“This will be our first World Championships and we hope to play our best badminton,” said Valeree, who is currently ranked 65th in the world with Yeen Yuan. The pair have endured a frustrating year so far as they have not cleared the early rounds of any tournament since February.

Their best achievement this year is reaching the semi-finals of the Syed Modi International in January.

On whether the opportunity to focus on the women’s doubles alone could benefit their partnership, Valeree said: “Having more time to train together is good but at the same time I think it’s not a big deal if I have to play in the mixed doubles too.”

Meanwhile, the 20-year-old is still unsure if she will renew her partnership with Tang Jie after the world meet.

“I have not decided on this. I will have to wait and see what the coaches are planning for us,” she said.
