Arif-Roy King upset Indonesian 12th seeds at World Championships


PETALING JAYA: Men’s doubles pair Wan Arif Wan Junaidi-Yap Roy King continued their impressive run at the World Championships in New Delhi after knocking out Indonesia’s 12th seeds Raymond Indra-Nikolaus Joaquin in the second round on Wednesday (Aug 19).

Arif-Roy King were sharp from the start at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium, controlling much of the match before wrapping up a 21-16, 21-19 win in 36 minutes.

A much tougher test awaits them in the third round, where they will face home favourites and fifth seeds Satwiksairaj Rankireddy-Chirag Shetty on Thursday (Aug 20) for a place in the quarter-finals.

Meanwhile, women’s singles shuttler Wong Ling Ching’s campaign came to an end after she went down 18-21, 10-21 to Japan’s second seed Akane Yamaguchi.
