Astro dethrones defending champions NST in Allianz Media Badminton Open

KUALA LUMPUR: Team Astro emerged as champions in the second Allianz Media Badminton Open 2022 team event competition held on June 30 at the Sports Arena Sentosa.

Astro became champions in the new league system format with a perfect six over six wins, relegating defending champions New Straits Times who won the inaugural tournament in 2019, to second place.

Third place went to The Star, followed by China Press, Kosmo and Sinar Harian.

The tournament was supposed to be held annually but was postponed for the last two years due to the pandemic.

“We always look forward to a game of badminton with our media friends. It has been two years since we last hosted this tournament for reasons which are similar to everyone postponing their events.

“I would like to congratulate the winners in this tournament - which are all six media teams for participating and supporting the tournament,” said Sean Wang, CEO of Allianz Malaysia Berhad, who is also the team captain.
