KUALA LUMPUR: The long-awaited Allianz Media Badminton Open team competition is back.

Allianz Malaysia Berhad’s team had their final training cum sparring session with several media teams at the Sports Arena Sentosa last week in preparation for the second edition on Thursday, June 30.

The tournament was supposed to held annually but was postponed for the last two years due to the pandemic.

This year will feature seven teams, which includes Allianz Malaysia, The Star, New Straits Times, China Press, Kosmo, Astro and Sinar Harian.

"We always look forward to a game of badminton with our media friends. It has been two years since we last hosted this tournament for reasons which are similar to everyone postponing their events.

"We are all social but serious players too, hence we decided to also make some preparations in anticipation for this tournament.

"Overall, I am pleased with our preparations and we hope to give our media friends a run for their money, so to speak,” said Sean Wang, Chief Executive Officer of Allianz Malaysia Berhad who is also the team captain.
