PETALING JAYA: Junior Avengers pulled off a stunning surprise when they beat Junior Terminators 8-4 to emerge as the champions of the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) Junior Mixed Team Championship here in Bukit Kiara.
Led by captain Jacky Kok Jing Hong, Junior Avengers started the ball rolling when they took the first match through Chan Wen Tse-Siti Zulaikha Azmi who defeated Adiyna Anuar-Ong Xin Yee 15-9,13-15,15-12.
Junior Terminators, however, were not to be denied as they bounced back to take a 2-1 lead through Jimmy Wong-Cheng Su Yin and Mohd Faiq Haziq-Owen Low but their joy was shortlived.
Junior Avengers stepped on the gas as they went on a rampage to win the next six matches on a trot to take a 7-2 lead through the boys’ singles - Eogene Ewe Eon, V. Poopathi, Jan Jireh Lee; girls singles Siti Nurshuhaini Azman, Chan Wen Tse; and the boys’ doubles pair of Beh Chun Meng-Liew Xun.
Ong Xin Yee and Mohd Faiq Haziq pulled up to 4-7 for the Junior Terminators in the next two matches before Cheng Su Hui-Go Pei Kee made it an 8-4 win for the Junior Avengers.
The win had put Junior Avengers and Junior Terminators on the same two points from two matches played but they were differentiated by the number of games won in all matches.
