Ariana Nur Dania Mohd Zairi, Nurul Azreena Mohd Fazil and Syaqiera Mashayikh made history for Malaysian archery when they earned a quota slot for women's team recurve event at Paris Olympics.

PETALING JAYA: Ariana Nur Dania Mohd Zairi, Syaqiera Mashayikh and Nurul Azreena Mohd Fazil made history for Malaysian archery when they earned a quota slot for women's team recurve event at Paris Olympics.

The trio pulled off a surprise by reaching the final of the women's team recurve event in the Final Olympic Qualifier in Antalya, Turkiye today.

It is the first time Malaysia have qualified for the women's team event on the Olympic stage.

The Malaysian team fought back from two sets down to beat 10th seed Britain 5-3 in the semi-finals.

The trio earlier confirmed the Olympic ticket to Paris by beating Colombia 6-0 in the quarter-finals.

Malaysia are due to take on top seed and Hangzhou Asian Games silver medallist China in the final later today.

China brushed aside Taiwan 4-1 to reach the final. All the semi-finalists are assured of Olympic quota slots.

Malaysia ranked sixth in qualifying with 1,962 points. The team had a bye in the first round of the elimination rounds and then beat Vietnam 5-3 to reach the quarter-finals.

By qualifying for the team event, Ariana, Syaqiera and Azreena will get to shoot in the individual recurve event as well.
