BANGKOK: National archer Quik Chern Xin fought until the end, but had to settle with a silver after one shoot-off hreatbreak in the men's individual recurve event.
In his debut SEA Games, the 18-year-old Chern Xin gave much-experienced Indonesian Riau Ega Agata Salasabilla a close fight to level the tie at 5-5 in the final at the Thailand Sports Authority Archery Range here on Wednesday (Dec 17).
But in the shoot-off, Riau’s arrow was nearest to the bulls-eye mark, while Chern Xin was just inches away from his mark.
Earlier, the first game had ended 27-27, but Riau took the second and third, winning them 26-25 and 29-25.
Chern Xin did not wilt and bounced back in the fourth and fifth match, scoring 29-28 and 30-28 respectively.
Earlier, Chern Xin won the men’s team bronze medal after beating Thailand.
Meanwhile, in the mixed team event final, Ariana Nur Dania Mohd Zairi and Mohd Syafiq Busthamin lost to Singapore 2-6, to take silver.
It was Ariana’s second silver after the women’s team event, which also took place on the same day.
