Need for professional social workers in schools


THE recent disclosure by the Education Ministry on bullying in schools should be a matter of public concern. In 2025 alone, 2,889 cases of bullying were recorded nationwide, comprising 740 in primary schools and 2,149 in secondary schools.

During the same period, 3,570 criminal misconduct cases were reported, comprising 457 in primary schools and 3,113 in secondary schools, said the Education Ministry in a written reply dated Feb 24 published on the Parliament portal.
