Wanita MCA expresses our deepest sympathy towards a woman who is believed to have been experiencing emotional distress to the point of almost taking a self-harming action by attempting to jump into Sungai Gombak in Kuala Lumpur, as circulated on social media on Dec 28, 2025.

We also record our appreciation to the officers of the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and all parties involved who successfully calmed the victim before she was brought to Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL) to receive treatment.

Mental health issues are not trivial matters that can be taken lightly or ignored. Life pressures, emotional burdens and feelings of helplessness can affect anyone.

Therefore, society must be more cognitive and cautious when leaving comments on social media, and must not ridicule those who are going through difficult phases in life. Each individual has a different level of mental resilience, and not everyone is able to cope alone without a strong support system.

On behalf of Wanita MCA, we are always ready to extend assistance to women who are facing difficulties and in need of support, including psychological support, referrals for assistance, as well as cooperation with the authorities and relevant organisations.

Simultaneously, Wanita MCA urges the public to value life and not to act rashly when confronted with pressure. Sharing one’s problems with family members, friends or trusted parties is advisable so that one does not feel isolated and can become a source of pressure relief. There is nothing to be embarrassed about in seeking professional help such as counsellors or health officers, because only through professional assessment can the true level of stress being experienced be identified.

As a caring society, we must also be sensitive to signs of emotional distress among those around us. If one is under pressure, bottling up feelings will not help. Help is always available, and choose the proper channels to address the situation.

Wanita MCA remains committed to supporting efforts to raise mental health awareness and to ensuring that those affected are not marginalised from society’s attention.
