Ensuring every worker returns home safely


THE Institution of Engineers, Malaysia (IEM) is deeply saddened by the crane collapse and subsequent fire at the Tanjung Bin Power Plant in Pontian, Johor, on Dec 13 which resulted in the loss of two lives and injuries to three other workers. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased, and we pray for the swift recovery of those injured.

Incidents involving heavy machinery, particularly in critical infrastructure such as power plants, highlight the paramount importance of engineering safety and rigorous maintenance regimes. IEM wishes to highlight critical aspects that must be prioritised to prevent recurrences:
