MCA Youth is deeply saddened and angered by the tragic death of a motorcyclist who was killed after being struck by a driver under the influence of alcohol and drugs (DUI). This was not a mere accident but a preventable loss of life caused by reckless and irresponsible behaviour.

MCA Youth extends our sincere condolences to the family of Amirul Hafiz Omar. No family should have to endure such a painful and unjust loss. They deserve not only sympathy, but full and timely justice.

Between 2022 and June 2025, 41 lives have already been lost due to DUI-related road accidents, alongside significant damage to property. These are not just statistics. They represent lives cut short and families shattered. The time for half-measures has long passed.

MCA Youth therefore urges the Ministry of Transport to stringently and fully enforce the Road Transport Act 1987 (Act 333), including its amendments passed in 2020. Heavier penalties under Sections 41 to 45 must be applied without hesitation to ensure offenders are held fully accountable.

The government must send a clear and uncompromising message: those who choose to drive under the influence will face serious consequences. Justice must be delivered decisively, not only for the victim and their family, but to protect every road user.

Simultaneously, continuous public awareness efforts remain critical. Promoting safer alternatives such as e-hailing services can help prevent such tragedies before they occur.

Lives are at stake. Enforcement cannot be weak, and accountability cannot be selective.
