INTERNATIONAL Women’s Day, celebrated annually on March 8, serves as a global platform to recognise women’s achievements, raise awareness about gender inequality and promote women’s rights.
It grew out of efforts in the early 20th century to promote women’s rights, especially the right to vote in political elections, and has been sponsored by the United Nations since 1975.
