Low wages will not help us to achieve high-income nation status

I REFER to the report, “Not right for Economy Minister to make annual salary increment mandatory, says MEF” (The Star, July 13), in which Malaysian Employers Federation (MEF) president Datuk Dr Syed Hussain Syed Husman described Economy Minister Rafizi Ramli’s mandatory annual salary increment proposal as shocking, and that the minister should be sharing plans to improve the economy with businesses and the rakyat instead.

I disagree with the MEF’s stand on this issue, and totally side with Rafizi instead.
