When AI steals a face, the law must restore dignity

IMAGINE waking up to discover that your face has been placed on a sexually explicit image and circulated through social media. The image is fabricated, but the humiliation is real. Colleagues, relatives and students may see it before the victim even knows it exists. By then, downloading, reposting and anonymous distribution may have made the content almost impossible to contain.

This is the new reality of AI-generated sexually explicit deepfakes. Generative artificial intelligence can produce convincing intimate images of a person without that individual ever posing for a photograph or giving consent.
