ONE of the themes for International Women’s Day tomorrow is UN Women’s “Gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow”, and it comes with a call for climate action for women, by women.
The Council of Malaysian Women Political Leaders (Comwel) joins the international community of women to answer this call as we too understand the vital link between gender, social equity and climate change. Without gender equality today, a sustainable and equal future remains out of reach.
To advance gender equality in the sphere of climate change, we should focus on increasing women’s leadership in the green economy, especially in the agri-commodities sector.
It is my hope more women will be inclined to invest their time and effort in this area to answer the call for climate action for women, by women.
Happy International Women’s Day!
DATUK ZURAIDA KAMARUDDIN , President and founder, Council of Malaysian Women Political Leaders (Comwel) Plantation Industries and Commodities Minister
