As a former politician and lawyer, I have seen and continue to see how economical people can be with the truth when something important is at stake.

An inconvenient fact can disappear from an account. An answer can be carefully constructed to avoid the question. A version of events can be presented with great conviction, even when the evidence tells a different story.
