U.S. stocks close higher


NEW YORK, May 11 (Xinhua) -- U.S. stocks ended higher on Monday.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.19 percent to 49,704.47. The S&P 500 added 0.19 percent to 7,412.84. The Nasdaq Composite Index increased 0.1 percent to 26,274.13.

Six of the 11 primary S&P 500 sectors ended in green, with energy and materials leading the gainers by rising 2.63 percent and 1.43 percent, respectively. Meanwhile, communication services and consumer staples led the laggards by dropping 2.33 percent and 0.76 percent, respectively.
