LETTERS bearing the national coat of arms and purportedly issued by the Investment, Trade and Industry Ministry (Miti) are circulating, asking for RM3,000 from each recipient with the promise of returns.
The recipients are told to deposit their savings into company or personal accounts for so-called investment purposes.
Is Miti really soliciting direct investments from the public?
VERDICT:

FALSE
Bernama reports that the ministry has denied ever issuing such letters.
In a Facebook post on Monday (April 20), Minister Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani reminded the public not to be deceived by scams using forged letters to get money.
"The public is advised to remain vigilant and to lodge a police report immediately if they receive any suspicious letters or investment offers," he wrote.
Johari also uploaded a video showing an individual meeting him while carrying a letter bearing the national coat of arms and the ministry's letterhead, asking for RM3,000 in exchange for returns.
In the video, Johari is seen advising the individual to lodge a police report regarding the letter, purportedly signed by him, for further action.
