A VIDEO showing a garbage truck crashing through the boundary wall of a condominium before landing on several parked cars has been making the rounds on social media.

The incident is said to have occurred at a Kuala Lumpur condominium early Wednesday (Aug 12).

Did this really happen?

VERDICT:

TRUE

A garbage truck crashed through the boundary wall of a condominium before its front portion plunged into the compound and crushed three parked cars there in Kuala Lumpur at about 4.10am on Wednesday.

Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Asst Comm Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa said the truck was travelling downhill along Jalan Pantai Murni 1 when the driver lost control of the vehicle, believed to have been due to brake failure.

“The front portion of the truck fell onto three cars that were parked in the condominium compound. All three vehicles were unoccupied at the time,” he said in a statement.

ACP Mohd Zamzuri said the 41-year-old driver was not at the scene when police arrived and officers subsequently traced him to Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz (HCTM), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, where he was receiving treatment for an injury to his left leg.

The Malaysian driver holds a valid lorry driving licence.

Two garbage collection workers, both aged about 25, were also in the area when the accident occurred but escaped injury as they were collecting rubbish along the road.

The driver later went to the Kuala Lumpur Traffic Police Station at about 3.15pm to lodge a report.

A breathalyser test conducted on him returned a negative result for alcohol.

ACP Mohd Zamzuri said the garbage truck would be sent to Puspakom for further inspection to determine the actual cause of the accident.

The case is being investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
