QuickCheck: Is it true that doctors in Sweden can prescribe travel as medicine?

Many people see travel as a mental escape from busy routines – and it works. They come back refreshed and energised.

With burnout and constant pressure on the rise, taking a break is no longer just for leisure but also a way to support your mental and physical well-being.

So can doctors in Sweden really prescribe travel?

VERDICT:

TRUE

The initiative, called “The Swedish Prescription”, was launched by Visit Sweden jointly with health experts. It encourages people to spend time in nature, explore cultural sites, and take part in outdoor activities to improve wellbeing.

Research also shows that spending time outdoors, staying active and experiencing new things can help reduce stress and lift your mood.

These travel prescriptions don’t replace conventional medical treatment, though. Instead, they encourage people to include lifestyle activities, such as hiking or visiting museums, to boost their overall health.
