QuickCheck: Is there a free haj offer from Tabung Haji?

CLAIMS of free haj offers are making rounds on social media platforms such as TikTok and Instagram recently.

Some are advertising to look for people to fill quotas, while others are claiming that it is a government initiative.

It was said that through the initiative, more Malaysian Muslims can now perform their religious obligations without having to worry about the financial pressure.

But is Tabung Haji legitimately running offers to provide free haj to ease the burden of the people?

VERDICT:

FALSE

Tabung Haji (TH) denies any offer to perform the haj for free, either directly or through a subsidiary, on any social media platform.

The board said it detected several social media accounts that are making free haj offers to the public.

According to TH, any free offer that uses their name or logo is false and is intended to mislead the public.

"TH has never offered free haj packages in any form.

"The public is advised not to be fooled by fraudulent tactics that try to take advantage," it said in a statement on its Facebook page on Tuesday (Feb 17).

The board reminded the public to always be vigilant and not share their personal information, especially account details, with suspicious parties.

The public may refer to the TH's official communication channels to get confirmation on such offers or to verify information.
